When I say your hair I mean ‘your’ Brazilian/ Indian / Peruvian hair extensions.
The longevity of your extension hair depends on its maintenance.
Real human hair is actual hair from a real human being. So logically it’s best to maintain & treat it like one of it’s previous owners would!
Brazilian, Indian & Peruvian hair is slightly thinker than European hair and because not all bundles are necessarily from one (head) source it’s not as pure as it could be, so sometimes products like Pantene Pro V, L’Oreal & Frizz Ease don’t always work.
Below I’ve made a list of some tips and simple natural products to help maintain your hair extensions.
1. Coconut Oil
Great for skin & these hair types. It’ll make your hair silky, soft and manageable.
2. Castor Oil
Just as great as coconut oil and its amazing for the scalp to relive itching.
If like me you hate having your hair weighed down with product, just use a tiny drop of this.
3. Wash with Tea
Apparently washing your hair with tea, no milk & no sugar just black tea does wonders for hair.
HOW TO WASH YOUR HAIR WITH BLACK TEA
4. Olive Oil, Lemon Juice & Coconut Oil Treatments
Just leave it on for about fifteen minutes, shampoo out and see/feel how amazing your hair will be.
You can do this every week or 2-3 weeks in to refresh & revamp. The lemon juice will strip out any extra oils, while the coconut and olive oil will moisturise. If you do this while your weave is in these two oils will be great for your scalp especially if you suffer from itchy scalp.
5. No Harsh Brushes
Don’t use brushes that are going to be super harsh or brushes that will pull and break the hair.
Keep it simple, I always untangle my hair first with a wide comb or brush then use a paddle brush (mine is a large one for long hair from Mason Pearson). This will help keep the split ends at bay.
7. Choose Your Shampoo Wisely
Finally chickas, when you have real human hair, you want to make sure you use the right shampoo. I personally recommend Moroccan oil shampoo cause it does great for my hair.
But do your research and look for a good keratin rich shampoo that might work better for you. If you find one let me know.
If you don’t wear weave and you have natural (grown from your scalp) Brazilian/Indian/Peruvian hair do look after it and if you ever get bored and want a cut, do let me know as I might have a few buyers for you.

inLacquerous is an online service that lets you rent nail polish for a monthly fee.
Just like a DVD from LoveFilm.com, you log in, pick your favourites & add them to your Lust List. Once you’re time is up, send them back to Lacquerous in the pre-paid return packaging label and that’s it. Simples! For $18 per month you’ll receive your choice of three colors.
Personally I’m not convinced. I kinda like having a collection of polishes on my shelf.
What do you think?
Yay or Nay?

inI’m about to embark on my bridal skin care regime and as I research which products to start with I actually started to wonder. Instead of reading other peoples reviews (which are helpful) I should at least know what ingredients are beneficial & necessary for what I want for myself.
I generally don’t have problematic skin so I know I don’t want anything which will be too complicated or make my skin reliant should I stop.
Currently I use Clearasil Perfectawash as my daily and in between my cycle and after long weekends I use MD Formulations Face & Body Scrub (a must!). I love this product. It’s been a gem in my beauty kit for the past 2 years. I must do a quick post just in its honour.
Anyway back to research. I’ve searched the web and I’ve come up with 10 components which are common in most of the products I am looking at.
1. Salicylic Acid
Known to be a good acid as it helps reveal fresh and beautiful skin.
Its a common ingredient in many skin care products. Recommended for people with acne or oily skin because it helps exfoliate and cleanse.
2. Hydroquinone
No I don’t want to bleach my smooth chocolate skin….lol but I do want bright glowing skin.
Most people think this is for bleaching. Yes it does lighten the skin but it all depends on quantity & length of use.
This ingredient is great when it comes to fading hyperpigmentation. Clearing the skin from any dark spots or uneven tones.
3. Witch Hazel
This ingredient is ideal for ladies (or gents) with oily skin. Its great to refresh, smooth and balance the skin
Witch hazel is a must-have product for some women to use as an astringent, moisturizer or to treat sun damaged skin.
4. Retinoids
This ingredient is often found in anti-ageing skin care, which I obviously don’t need as I’m still youthful….cough cough
Also known as Vitamin A, this ingredient fights wrinkles, increases skin cell turnover and shrink oil glands!
Great if you have larger pores or ageing skin.
5. Hyaluronic Acid
Another great ingredient for anti-ageing and also for dry skin.
Ok an actual science fact: Hyaluronic acid is a component of connective tissue, which is said to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Basically, It does wonders to hydrate the skin, help diminish the appearance of wrinkles and sun damage.
This ingredient is also mixed in with some makeup products.
6. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA)
Another good acids. These acids are taken from fruit or milk and they do a great job in exfoliating and revitalising the skin.
7. Peptides
Peptides reduce the look of wrinkles by plumping up the skin as well as smooth out lines and moisturize dry or rough skin.
Mostly found in anti ageing products & lip products too.
8. Silicone
Yep! Fake boobs kinda stuff….ok so silicone is a common skin care ingredients which is mostly found in toners and moisturisers.
It helps protect the skin and can also help decrease the appearance of scar tissue.
9. Glycerin
Another common skin care ingredient mostly seen in soaps and many skin care products. This ingredient can moisten parched dry skin, help restore water levels and prevent drying in skin. Its also great for people who have eczema as it can help calm itchy skin.
10. Jojoba Oil
A natural oil from plants which is great for scalp, skin and lips. It can be found mixed in but it can also be used on its own.
Easily absorbed and is ideal to use in the colder weather. As I’m getting married in Africa this isn’t a must.
Wow! So I covered the most common found which were useful to know. Next time i’m gonna try and also look at any wonder ingredients that are not soo common.
Normally I don’t take the time to look at the ingredients but I think I’ve picked up a new habit.
As google is a dear friend, I also learnt that after any use of an exfoliating product it’s vital to follow up with a sunscreen or a moisturiser with sunscreen.
